THE PRINCIPLE OF MODULARITY AS A DESIGN METHOD IN ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN

Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №4 (80) December, 2022

The article examines the principle of modularity as a design method in design education on the example of Environment Design student works at the Department of Design. The definition of modularity and fractality is clarified. The historical background of this principle and modern research are considered. The interrelation of academic assignments is presented as a system ensuring the learning of the principles of modularity in the core module of environmental design, spanning work from creative entrance tests to graduation projects. It is shown how an insight into the design method can be provided through the example of a formal composition, a three-dimensional composition, a modular piece of furniture or a spatial design concept or form. The conclusion summarizes the results of using the modular principle in environmental design.

ARCHITECTURAL AND DESIGN MATERIALS AS A BASIS FOR SHAPING IN DESIGN

Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №3 (79) September, 2022

The article provides support to the principle of form-building on the basis of the second-order associative series in the work of the environment designer. Methods of form finding and creative source stylizing, as well as using first-order associations in design are given. Environmental design phases are considered on the example of small architectural forms and an interior lamp made of natural material. The advantages of creating an abstract creative source for form-building in design are analyzed
