Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №3 (79) September, 2022
The article describes the strengthening of the defensive coastal space of the Crimean Peninsula after the end of the Eastern War under the restrictions that were imposed on the Russian Empire in accordance with the Paris Peace Treaty of 1856. The author of the article, professor, head of the Department of Military Architecture of the Moscow Architectural Institute P.V.Panukhin analyzes the principles by which the underground Fortress of Kerch was built, which was to become a model for new fortifications dispersed throughout the Crimea. The builder of the fortress, Adjutant General E.I. Totleben managed to create a perfect fortification, against which all the anti-Russian sanctions of the Paris Treaty were powerless. Analyzing the defense system of the Crimea, the author comes to the conclusion that thanks to a skillful strategy of spatial positioning of the territory, by the end of the 1870s Russia had become the most powerful power in the Northern Black Sea basin.
