Rethinking the traditional applied weaving practices in modern architecture

The article reviews international architectural experiences, which demonstrate a revival of interest in traditional and archetypally recognizable images in architecture. The approaches to architectural design based on the rethinking of the traditional weaving practices as a new construction system are analyzed and defined.

ARTISTIC METAPHOR AS A REFLECTION ON TRADITIONAL CRAFTS IN MODERN ARCHITECTURE

The article deals with the issues of postmodern metaphoricity in architecture related to the comprehension of traditional textile crafts, such as lace weaving, carpet making, embroidery, etc. The communicative function of metaphor in architectural practice is noted. The role of traditional textile crafts in the historical development of architecture is investigated. An experience in figurative interpretation of traditional crafts as a way of humanizing architecture by means of metaphorical imagery is presented.
