Design principles for an innovative youth center on the basis of matrix analysis
Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №2 (94) June, 2026
Contemporary transformations of the urban environment, accelerated development of digital technologies, and changes in youth lifestyles are creating a need for new forms of spatial organization for young audiences such as innovative youth centers—multifunctional spaces integrated into the socio-cultural, educational, and technological context of the urban environment. It is important to note that current architectural practice lacks a holistic model of innovative youth center as an adaptive public facility whose functional program would incorporate cultural, educational, project-based, and recreational functions within a single space. This study seeks to identify design principles for innovative youth centers (IYCs) based on a matrix analysis of existing comparable projects. IYC is examined not as a standalone leisure facility, but as a multifunctional architectural environment that integrates various educational, project-based, creative, and recreational scenarios. We analyzed 24 facilities, assessing them across eight components, and highlighted the most effective examples. Sustainable IYC design principles were identified, and an IYC functional planning model with its main functional units was proposed. The findings can be applied in architectural and urban planning practice for youth infrastructure facilities and will contribute to the development of the urban environment as a space of opportunity and active dialogue between generations.

Matrix analysis of the structure and spatial organization of eco-urban arable farming centers
Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №3 (91) September, 2025
The current relevance of the research topic is determined by the need to develop sustainable forms of agricultural activity in an urban environment, and to provide support for structural and spatial organization of ecourbanic farming centers (EUFC). The urban area is considered as a promising platform for the integration of ecologically oriented agricultural practices that contribute to restoring the natural balance, ensuring food security, and developing recreational spaces and educational initiatives in the field of sustainable agriculture. This issue is lacking theoretical and methodological foundations and models of spatial integration of the EUFC into the structure of a modern city. The purpose of the study was to identify the features of the architectural structure and spatial organization of the EUFC by matrix analysis. The study helped to identify the basic principles of eco-agrarian center location taking into account urban landscape planning characteristics; the structure of the functional zones of the EUFC; the typology of centers by functional content and their spatial architectural organization.

Laying groundwork for the development of a salutogenic architecture design method in the context of physical activity
Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №4 (84) December, 2023
The purpose of the research work is to model behavior control through spatial organization for developing a method of salutogenic architecture design. At this stage of research, we use an interpretive method to summarize interdisciplinary knowledge about the influence of spatial organization on human behavior and the psychophysiology of space perception in the context of behavioral choice in order to identify spatial configurations that promote salutogenic behavior. The main conclusions of the research work are presented as generalized principles of architectural environment development that promote increased motor activity. The results of the study open further research venues for the development of the above-mentioned design method.

Application of sustainable architecture principles in buildings of innovative research and production facilities
Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №3 (83) September 2023
In the era of information society, science and technology keep developing at rapid pace along with a growing number of innovative R&D facilities, whose role in society is increasing and their typology becoming more complex. The study considers architectural and planning solutions for buildings involved in different innovative activities. A review of such implemented projects across Russia and other countries revealed their urban planning significance and their distinctive architectural, planning, spatial, functional and energy-efficiency features as examples of application of sustainable architecture principles.

Formation features of the transparency concepts in western contemporary architectural theory
Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №3 (83) September 2023
The article examines the history of the concepts of transparency in the 20th century architectural theory. The meaning of transparency in architecture is as broad as that in social sciences, avant-garde art, and philosophy. Mutual enrichment between disciplines has led to the fact that the category of transparency in architecture remains undefined. Its further analysis requires a systematic description of the meanings of this category.
The paper presents a chronological analysis of the history of the concepts of transparency in contemporary western architectural theory taking into account the social prerequisites and theoretical foundations for their emergence. Stages in the evolution of these concepts are outlined, and related approaches to understanding transparency in the theory of western architecture throughout the 20th century are reviewed.

DESIGN PRINCIPLES FOR MENTAL HEALTH CENTERS IN THE 21ST CENTURY
Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №4 (80) December, 2022
The article reviews international experiences in the designing of in-patient medical institutions: hospitals, medical centers, health centers, social welfare centers, psychiatric rehabilitation centers, centers for people with disabilities, mental health centers. Current trends in the design of these typologies in the form of spatial and functional models are identified. A concept of mental health center is introduced.
