Ideas of constructivism in modern residential complexes

The article examines the connection between the principles that underlie the architecture of modern Russian residential complexes and Soviet commune housing of the 1920-1930s. The authors review the trends of modern residential architecture and identify common features in the architecture of the two periods. Modern residential complexes are beginning to be developed according to the principle of 'self-sufficiency', as a network of interconnected spaces to meet all needs of the residents within the space of the residential complex. The Soviet commune houses were formed on a similar principle with the intention to satisfy domestic needs within a residential unit. Revisiting the experiences of the past generations thus provides an insight into modern architecture.
