MODERN-DAY RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CATHEDRALS IN CANADA IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE 20th – EARLY 21st CENTURY

This study aims to identify the architectural features of Orthodox cult buildings in Canada. The article deals with the Orthodox churches constructed since 1960 under the jurisdiction of Russian Orthodox Church Abroad. Areas having the highest concentration of Russian cult buildings in Canada are defined and the basic tendencies in the construction of Orthodox churches during this period are identified. The author considers spatial planning, compositional and stylistic features and the interiors of the significant cult buildings. Regularities in form generation are revealed and cult building design features from other religions which have influenced Russian Orthodox architecture in the new country are highlighted.
