Neboplaza – a dominant background or a background dominant? On perception of modern buildings in historical environment

Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №1 (89) March, 2024

Construction of modern high-rise buildings in an environment where cultural heritage objects are present can affect the perception of the already established city structure in a negative way. Neboplaza Business Centre located in the historical part of Yekaterinburg may be regarded as one of such high-rise buildings. The article analyzes the perception of its spatial features and clarifies its compliance with the functional direction of modern building design in similar conditions. The influence of the business centre on the existing environment and on the cityscape is discussed. To determine its significance, the object is evaluated from the perspective of two terms - "high-rise dominant" and "background buildings".
