Representation of the Soviet aesthetic ideals in the functional structure and imagery of public interiors in the 1930s.

Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №3 (91) September, 2025

The study examines the influence of Soviet aesthetic ideals on the functional structure and imagery of interiors. Tendencies are identified in Soviet public interior design in the 1930s. A comparative analysis of a series of objects from that period revealed certain interior design features: increased operational loads contributed to the alignment of the spatial content with architectural components; formal compositional challenges included issues of scale, proportion, and rhythmic relationships within the new, expanded spaces; associations and viewing scenarios became a tool for creating an emotionally oriented environment influencing visitor perception.
