The phenomenon of adaptation and the principles of universal design in the development of a barrier-free environment in a botanical garden

Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №3 (91) September, 2025

The article presents a theory in support of the phenomenon of adaptation and the principles of universal design in the development of a barrier-free environment. An environment with adaptive properties is defined as one stably functioning under various changes in the external and internal conditions of interaction with human individuals. Versatility is characterized by the creation of a design product that does not have an addressable orientation, but initially includes all possible options for its use in accordance with the characteristics of the target audience. A concept of site improvement and landscaping for people with disabilities in the botanical garden of Orenburg State University is presented as a case of adapting the environment to the needs of the target audience by means of universal design.
