Integration of healthcare architectural and design techniques into the interior of modern health care and prevention institutions

Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №2 (94) June, 2026

The design of healthcare facilities in Russia is governed by a set of regulatory documents focused primarily on ensuring the implementation of technical, sanitary-epidemiological, and ergonomic requirements. Due to the prevalence of a utilitarian approach to design, the environment in such facilities is traditionally characterized by monotony, impersonality, and alienation, and is perceived as "unfriendly." This alienation and "unfriendly" space leads to increased patient anxiety and complicates the work of medical staff. However, strict adherence to regulatory documents does not impede the creation of psychological comfort. In 1992, as a result of numerous studies, a concept for a therapeutic ("healing") environment for healthcare facilities was developed. An analysis of this concept and design solutions in its implementation suggests architectural and design tools that contribute to improving the level of comfort in healthcare facilities.
