A model for the development of multi-level urban space

Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №2 (94) June, 2026

The article considers a promising model of multilevel of urban space development. A number of projects illustrate the development of city underground or aboveground environment. The relevance of this approach for the development of large urban formations is emphasized. Characteristics that are key to the model under consideration are outlined, the main being functional zoning, transportation system, distribution of building masses, possibility of metabolism of the created environment, and psychological and physiological factors that should be paid attention to when implementing such a model. The article also proposes to form a three-part spatial model taking into account the levels at which the functional zones are located relative to the Earth’s surface.
