Casting art in the 19th century Ural architecture: an overview of the heritage and the degree of its study

The article overviews the emergence and development of metal casting art in the Urals in the 17th–20th centuries and examines its applications in the architecture of Yekaterinburg. The development of metallurgical production in the Urals and its influence on the region’s distinctive architectural and artistic craft are considered. Special attention is paid to the 19th century architecture of Yekaterinburg, which is characterized by a combination of classical forms and other styles with local traditions, focusing on casting art as an integral part of building façades, park landscapes and public spaces. The author briefly overviews existing research into the topic and current knowledge, and, as a first approximation, establishes key stages in the historical evolution of metal art in Ural architecture.
