The article considers the historic features of deluxe hotels and identifies basic criteria for relating a hotel to the deluxe class. Application of the comparative historical method to the functional patterns of public spaces in modern hotels and early 20th century hotels has revealed a need to increase public space area on a per room basis. Extensive and intensive reconstruction techniques are expounded.
