PEDAGOGICAL EXPERIMENTS OF SUPREMATISTS IN ORENBURG. BASED ON CORRESPONDENCE BETWEEN IVAN KUDRYASHOV AND THE VITEBSK CREATIVE COMMITTEE OF THE UNOVIS (1920–1922)

Based on an analysis of little-known archival sources, the article describes the pedagogical activities of the artists Ivan Kudryashov, Nadezhda Timofeyeva, and Sergey Kalmykov, suprematism representatives in Orenburg. Supported directly by Kazimir Malevich and El Lissitzky, they set up a local branch of the UNOVIS (The Champions of New Arts) within the Orenburg GKhSM (State Free Art Studios) following the model of the Vitebsk ("parental") organization, and then put into practice their general pedagogical programme. The article reconstructs the stages of this work and identifies parallels in the art of the two creative educational centres of suprematism.
