CONVERSION OF ABANDONED INDUSTRIAL FACILITIES IN RESORT CONDITIONS
Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №2 (54) June, 2016
The article analyses the potential for abandoned industrial facilities to be developed as resorts. It points out the prerequisites for such conversions, identifies territories suitable for such reconstruction, and highlights a special entity, a resort that has arisen from a formerly industrial location.
Based on an analysis of international experiences, the authors suggest a classification of objects for conversion by size (small, medium and large) and by functional focus (housing, exhibition areas and installations, landscaped parks and amusement parks).

This article considers issues that are relevant to shaping the image of a seaside resort as viewed from the sea and reviews the principles and specificities of related visual perception. The purpose of the study is to identify distinctive features involved in the development of a resort's waterfront in a complicated terrain. Based on field observations of the nature and panoramic photographs of Greater Alushta (Crimea), the author reviews the existing environmental and town planning conditions and suggests recommendations concerning further development of the coastline.
