The article is devoted to the issue of composition in the treatment of archaeological architectural heritage exposure. The evolution of design techniques from the 18th century until now is considered in the context of a growing awareness of the historical and cultural importance of ancient monuments and development of theoretical ideas concerning their display environment. Design techniques are systematised by objective and intended use.

The article considers the issue of increasing access to the artistic value of architecture monuments by designing kinaesthetic conditions for their perception. The author touches upon the identification of typological features of stairs, tectonics and building history, and formation of a cognitive map and scenario for visiting a historical and cultural complex.
