PARIS IN THE PAINITINGS AND GRAPHICS OF THE MIRISKUSNIKI

Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №3 (67)

The article considers how the image of the French capital appeared in the creativity of the painters (miriskusniki) who belonged to the «World of Art» movement. The theme of Paris in the paintings and graphics of the miriskusniki has not been the subject of any special study, although it was touched upon by practically all who wrote about the masters of this association: authors of monographs about the «World of Art» in general and about individual miroiskusniki. Recently, this theme has found reflection in the publications devoted to Russian-French relations in art and to the creativity of Russian painters who found themselves in Paris during the period of emigration. We have reviewed an extensive list of art study literature as well as letters, diaries, and memoirs of the painters. It may be stated preliminarily that Paris in the creativity of the miroiskusniki did not occupy the prominent place it occupied in the creative work of Konstantin Korovin or Mark Shagal despite the fact that all of them visited Paris and even stayed in the city for a long time. It is our objective to find an explanation for this through the perceptions of Paris and its fine art and graphic interpretation by the painters who formed the core of the «World of Art».
