THE CONCEPT OF «KERCH STYLE» AS A TERMINOLOGICAL ISSUE IN VASE PAINTING STUDIES

The article discusses the terminological aspect of the Kerch style problem. The invention of the term and the history of its usage are given in the context of the history of study of late attic vase-painting and stylistic periodization of the entire Ancient Greek vase-painting history. The term is juxtaposed with the artificial names of vase-painters. According to the author’s observations, it would be reasonable to keep this term in usage despite some criticism of it in the present-day research.
