THE PRINCIPLE OF “INTERIOR” IN THE JAPANESE URBAN GARDEN DESIGN (WITH REFERENCE TO JAPAN’S LARGEST CITIES: TOKYO, OSAKA, SAPPORO)

On the basis of the Japanese experience, the article explores the "Interior" principle as a method to create gardens-green "rooms" in an urban environment. It is evident in three aspects: the scenario, human-centredness, and the aspect of microcosm. This allows the author to identify the ‘tricks’ of the urban environment in Japan by means of landscape design, which raises the issue of the applicability of the Japanese landscape experience in Russia.
