FINNISH TUFTED RUGS OF THE LATE 19th-EARLY 20th CENTURY: FROM TRADITION TO MODERNITY

The main goal of this article is to examine the traditional Finnish rugs and identify changes in their patterns in the context of the spreading modernist stylistics. The relevance of the topic is dictated by its insufficient study in the works of domestic arts critics. The names of the authors of carpet designs are given and illustrative material on the topic is provided. The result of this research is an analysis of carpet evolution from a household item to a unique masterpiece of art.
