TERRITORIAL LOCATION OF INTER-SETTLEMENT COMMUNITY SERVICE CENTRES IN THE CONTEXT OF THE HIGHLAND AND PIEDMONT POPULATION DISTRIBUTION PATTERN OF THE NORTHERN CAUCASUS

Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №3 (35) September, 2011

This article addresses issues related to territorial location of community services, taking into account the specific climatic conditions in the highland and piedmont areas of the Northern Caucasus.

The distribution of population in these areas features a dispersed pattern and, therefore, it is impossible to provide each individual community with the entire range of community services. The pattern of service provision may be rationalized by setting up inter-settlement service centres.

The author reviews the external and internal conditions that may influence the organization of inter-settlement service centres. Based on this review, suggestions are made concerning the location of such inter-settlement service centres.
