PICTURE AS PART OF THE INTERIOR. ILLUSIONIST TECHNIQUES IN 17th CENTURY DUTCH PAINTING

The article is concerned with the issue of interaction between picture and urban residential interior in 17th century Dutch art. The author considers the main tendencies in the development of the «bedriegertje» movement in painting with reference to the works of Carel Fabritius, Emanuel de Vitte, Pieter Janssens Elinga, and Samuel van Hoogstraten. Analysis covers works which were integral elements of interior décor. The artists’ methods of composition are reviewed. The author comes to the conclusion that these works of art employ illusionist methods.
