STRUCTURAL FEATURES OF SMALL LANDSCAPED SPACES IN MODERN CITIES

Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №3 (75) September, 2021

The article examines the structure and characteristics of small green spaces.
The novelty of the research work lies in the introduction of the term "small green space" into scientific circulation and determination of the relationship between its structures and functions. The basic elements of these spaces and their properties are identified. The layout of the architectural and landscape objects under study is reviewed, including various types of functional zones, connections between them and adjacent territories, equipment, vegetation, water objects, geoplastics, and various types of coating. The relationship between the structure and functions of small green spaces is analyzed. Recommendations for supplementing the green framework with a system of small green spaces are given.

TYPOLOGICAL FEATURES OF SMALL GARDENS IN THE ARCHITECTURAL AND LANDSCAPING SYSTEM OF EKATERINBURG

Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №2 (70) June, 2020

The typology of small gardens has been studied, including their characteristics and prevailing features in the architectural and landscaping system of Ekaterinburg. A comparative analysis of international and domestic experiences in creating urban small green spaces has revealed regular patterns in small garden design: the choice of style, image, spatial layout and composition of vegetation. Based on this approach and detailed field surveys of the most characteristic small gardens in Ekaterinburg, their typology is proposed taking into account correspondence to the architectural and landscape environment, location in the urban development, spatial treatment, functional purpose, style, and plant assortment. Classification helped reveal the typological features of these small green spaces and suggest ways to improve their esthetics, comfort, and sustainability allowing for the urban planning and landscaping specifics of Ekaterinburg.
