The development of engineering design thinking in would-be industrial designers

Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №2 (82) June, 2023

Problems of introducing the younger generation to the technical achievements of not only the virtual but also the material world are considered. The display of railway transport evolution at the "Center for the Historical Heritage of the South Urals Railway" will help identify methods, means, and techniques that would contribute the development of engineering design thinking in schoolchildren and students.

DESIGN ENGINEERING OF TRANSPORT SYSTEM COMPONENTS

Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №2 (78) June, 2022

The article considers the method of systemic design as an effective tool for design engineering in terms of setting design tasks, the feasibility of decisions made and predicting product life cycle. The transport system is a complex multi-level structure that includes many components. One of its key components is the vehicle, the design of which is a product of multidisciplinary teamwork that requires a systematic approach

THE TRAM AS A SPECIFIC OBJECT OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT DESIGN

Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №2 (70) June, 2020

Recently, designers and manufacturers have developed interest in the tram as a key element of urban public transport considering its eco-friendliness and cost-effectiveness. Ekaterinburg has a wide network of tram lines but the fleet of trams is old and does not meet modern requirements for public transport. In 2019, the administration of the city came up with a call to develop a convenient electric public transport vehicle. This challenge requires a new systemic approach to tram design in which the defining role belongs to its engineering and infrastructural characteristics.

AN INTENSIVE COURSE OF INDUSTRIAL DEISGN IN THE PROGRAM OF THE “GOLDEN SECTION” FOUNDATION

Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №1 (69) March, 2020

In 2017, the Government of Sverdlovsk region, Russia, set up ‘Golden Section’, a foundation for supporting talented children and young people. This foundation regularly provides short-term professional orientation courses for young talents. This activity is coordinated by the regional Ministry of Education and Youth Policy, and the Ural State University of Architecture and Art (USUAA) is a regular contributor to this program. In the early 2020, the foundation held a winter course during which USUAA presented and successfully tested an intensive course of Industrial Design developed on the basis of the teaching and learning techniques used by the Department of Industrial Design in its degree courses.

DIGITAL MODEL TECHNOLOGIES AS A METHOD OF PREPARING STUDENTS FOR MODERN-DAY EMPLOYMENT

Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №1 (57) March, 2017

Employment of young graduates is one of the burning issues in today’s higher school. The article considers the goals, problems and mechanisms of the educational program «Foundations of Industrial Excellence» which helps ensure that graduate designers get quickly adapted to the realities of modern-day industrial contexts. The basic tools of the educational process are digital modelling technologies and mockup-making practice.
