Principles of architectural image development in modern architecture

Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №3 (91) September, 2025

The study examines the architectural image as a cognitive result of perception and as an information model of architecture consisting of seven categories of signals. A reference coordinate system is formulated as principles that include all the diversity of manifestations of architectural image signals between two polar states. These principles, identified through analysis of current trends in the theory and practice of modern architecture, reflect the formation of the architectural image of modern architecture. Recommendations for use are proposed for each of the principles, organizing practice-oriented processes into a single theoretical system.

THE ARCHETYPE "STONE" AS AN EXAMPLE OF THE BASIS OF COMMUNICATIVE QUALITIES IN THE SPATIAL PLASTIC IMAGE OF A BUILDING

Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №3 (75) September, 2021

The article consistently considers architecture as social communication and the building’s spatial plastic image as part of the communication process. Interpretations of the architectural archetype are reviewed; a general understanding of the phenomenon is formulated as complex perception of an image, where part of the codes are realized through the collective subconscious in the perceiver’s psyche. The existence of the architectural archetype "stone" is stated as a consequence of the influence produced by megalithic structures which served as the oldest social and cultural objects. The communicative qualities of modern social and cultural objects are analyzed as vivid examples of the "stone" archetype.
