A method for assessing the visibility of architectural and urban objects in complex urban environments
Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №2 (94) June, 2026
The authors present their method for digital analysis of the visibility of architectural and planning objects in an urban environment based on the integration of geoinformation data, three-dimensional modeling, and light analysis. The method eliminates the need for field surveys, ensuring objective and reproducible results. Unlike traditional approaches, which are limited by the accessibility of the territory and the subjectivity of perception, the proposed method relies on open sources of geodata and combines a sequence of operations in QGIS, SketchUp, and V-Ray environments to construct quantitative visibility maps. Testing of the method on the example of the Raduga National Nature Park in St. Petersburg confirmed its effectiveness and consistency with real observations. The results demonstrate the potential for practical use of the method in urban planning and historical and architectural research when assessing the visual perception of architectural and urban planning objects.

ESSENTIAL DEFINITIONAL ANALYSIS OF THE TERM «TOURISM AND RECREATION SPACE»
Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №4 (80) December, 2022
The article is devoted to identifying the essential definitional features of the concept of "tourism and recreation space" (TRS) in order to clarify its interpretation in the aspect of architectural and urban planning specifics. The current trends in the formation of the conceptual and terminological base in scientific research are outlined. The main approaches to the formation of the term TRS are considered by means of essential definitional analysis. The reasons for the lack of a unified interpretation are listed. Based on a comparative analysis of terms and concepts that lay bare the architectural and urban aspects, the author refines the definition of the concept and determines the structure of the tourism and recreation space and the functional orientation of its elements.

ARCHITECTURAL AND PLANNING FEATURES OF CASTLE COMPLEXES IN KALININGRAD REGION (WITH REFERENCE TO TOURISM DEVELOPMENT)
Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №4 (76) December, 2021
The architectural and planning features of medieval castle complexes in the Kaliningrad were examined in order to define the main stages of their restoration with an eye to their further use as tourism sights. Information on the planning structure, typology and siting of the castles was consolidated. A comprehensive analysis of the surviving castles and a review of the region’s tourist potential were carried out to decide on the sequence of phases in the transformation of these objects of the tourism and recreation space. Prospective functionalities are considered and the main tourist destinations to be served by the restored castles are outlined.
