EARTHWORK PLAN WITH CAT-AND-FILL VOLUME AND AREA CALCULATIONS FOR MASTER PLANNING IN AUTODESK CIVIL 3D

The article reviews the possibilities of using various versions of Autodesk Civil 3D to develop earthwork plans with cut/fill volume and area calculations for master planning and development of related documentation in accordance with the regulatory documents in force in the Russian Federation. Difficulties and problems in the application of Civil 3D tools, add-ons and utilities and ways to resolve them are considered. Comparison is made between earthwork plans for a given surface calculated by different techniques (Civil 3D tools, applications, add-ons, utilities) and manually (semi-manually) according to the state standard GOST 21.508-2020. The results are summarized in a table suggesting conclusions concerning the accuracy of the methods used. Another table compares the tools used in the calculations by availability on the Internet, location in Civil 3D, accessibility and usability (intuitiveness) of the interface, compliance of output information and its design with the requirements of the Russian Federation standards, as well as by technical support availability and updating of the tools, applications, add-ons, and utilities.
