Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №4 (80) December, 2022
The article is devoted to the study of the 1678 Wedding Stained Glass of Rudolf Kesler and Maria Magdalena von Diesbach from the collection of the State Hermitage Museum (St. Petersburg, Russia), which has survived to this day. The work focuses on the development of wedding stained glass windows in the Swiss Confederation during the birth and flourishing of stained glass art in the 16th-17th century. A systematic approach to the study of stained glass composition will help determine the main compositional and technical and technological features of the wedding stained glass window of Rudolf Kesler and Maria Magdalena von Diesbach. Structural and compositional analysis of the stained-glass window brings to light the peculiarities of its composition and reveals an artistic relationship with the familial (wedding) stained-glass windows of the von Diesbach family created earlier than the 1670s. Considerable attention in the article is paid to iconographic analysis of the composition plot "The Siege of the City". The findings will be of interest to specialists who study stained glass compositions of both the Swiss Confederation and other Western European stained glass of that period. There is still a debatable issue of compositional plots, which, as a rule, were placed in the upper case of a stained-glass window and supplemented the information about the customer or the owner of the arms.
