LOST DETAILS IN THE APPEARANCE OF THE ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGE IN HARBIN
Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №3 (67)
The study reviews experiences in working with historical built-up environments and identifies errors in contemporary reconstructions and restorations of the Russian architectural heritage in Harbin, in particular the Art Nouveau and Neo-Baroque buildings, which lost important architectural elements that made them stand out against the general background of the streets. Histories of construction and historical and contemporary photographs of the objects under study are presented. The descriptions present buildings at various stages in their history. The architectural specifics of Harbin buildings are identified. A comparative analysis has enabled changes to be identified in the architectural treatment of the façades. Emphasis is made on the need to restore the lost details and correct errors in the restorations distorting the image of the heritage.
