Methods of adapting the architecture of commercial buildings

The purpose of the study is to identify methods of adapting architecture using the example of commercial buildings. The main conclusions of the study are presented in the form of a concept of “adaptive architecture”, classification of adaptive architectures, and methods of building adaptation at different levels as identified during the analysis. These conclusions may provide a basis for developing recommendations for the design and restoration of commercial buildings. Adaptations of commercial structures already implemented in design practice are overviewed.

Architectural and spatial evolution of the market as a place of social interaction of society

The article considers the evolution of market architecture from the Ancient World to the present day and current market significance in the following parameters: architecture, urban planning, and social and cultural spheres of society. The analysis provided four models of market organization. The four typologies of markets adopted in the Soviet period have been actualized, and their architectural, urban planning and socio-cultural features have been placed in the current context. Preconditions for the emergence of community centers based on markers have been considered. Basic requirements for setting up a new type of community centers have been formulated, and the main trends in their development have been identified based on a review of modern markets.
