Evolution of the Russian style in Samara architecture 19th – early 20th century: from imitation to originality

The article examines "Russian style" evolution in Samara architecture in the second half of the 19th – early 20th century. The main periods in the evolution of this style in the architecture of Samara are highlighted, including their connection with the national revival and search for identity in the in the 19th – early 20th century architecture of Russia. The key stages of its formation are determined, which are reflected in the "Russian-Byzantine", "Ropetov", "Russian style", "Byzantine" and "Neo-Russian" styles. The characteristic techniques, elements and motifs of these styles are identified. The styles are illustrated by significant architectural monuments, which serve as important evidence of the city's cultural and historical identity.
