THE METHOD OF CELLULAR AUTOMATA IN THE MODELLING OF URBAN AREAS

The article reviews the use of cellular automata in urban planning analysis. The method is attractive because it models the complex behavior of a system proceeding from simple rules. This innovative approach enables one to allow various factors influencing city development and model a spatial structure based on the principle of self-organization and understand the city as a natural system evolving by its own objective laws. Conclusions are drawn based on the thematic review and recommendations are suggested for further use of cellular automata in urban planning
