GENESIS AND SOCIO-CULTURAL FACTORS OF REGIONAL DESIGN SCHOOL FORMATION (BASED ON THE EXAMPLE OF THE OMSK FASHION DESIGN SCHOOL)

The article examines and reviews conditions which provide background for the emergence and formation of peripheral design schools using as an example the Omsk School of Fashion Design. The emergence of a regional design school is a specific and unique occurrence in the context of interrelated historical, social and cultural processes and objective and subjective factors, geography and ethnic structure of the region. A historical and “genetic” approach is used to study the origins of the school and a socio-cultural method to review its emergence and development through the prism of culture. The article considers retrospectively the emergence and evolution of national design and how the art and socio-cultural context of Omsk prepared the way for the establishment of Omsk School of Fashion Design. The issue of defining the concepts of “school of art” in art studies and “school of design” in design culture is posed. The concept of “school of design” is defined and its essential features are identified.
