THE IDEA OF "NATURALNESS" IN LATE 19th - EARLY 21st CENTURY ARCHITECTURAL CONCEPTS
Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №3 (59) September, 2017
The article states the importance of studying how the idea of "naturalness" was realized in the late 19th - early 21st century architectural concepts. In the context of this study, the idea of "naturalness" is understood as a definite concept which, on mental level, takes in all the diversity of the natural world used by the architect in his creative search in the process of designing objects and structures. Basing on already known techniques, an algorithm is proposed for investigating the idea of "naturalness" in architectural concepts, following which the late 19th - early 21st century architectural concepts employing the idea of "naturalness" are described in chronological sequence. The author concludes that the period under study saw gradual accumulation of such architectural concepts as new discoveries in natural sciences and construction technologies expanded the range of natural analogues available for creative architectural search. It is further concluded that the realization of the idea of "naturalness" in the late 19th - early 21st century architectural concepts was a dialectical process of qualitative evolution in architectural thought.
