EVOLUTION OF FUNDAMENTAL ARCHITECTURAL ENSEMBLE CONCEPTS IN THE PERIODICALS OF THE 1930s – EARLY 21st CENTURY

The article reviews the theme of architectural ensemble in the 1930s – early 21st century periodicals with reference to two fundamental concepts: "development of ensembles is one of the most important aspects of urban planning" and "harmonious ensembles are wonderful examples of architecture." The aim of the research is to study the influence of some texts on the other and identify the typology that had the greatest importance for the development of this theory. The author concludes that theoreticians employed the first fundamental concept mainly in critical and theoretical texts, and the second in historical ones. Overall, the greatest impact on the texts devoted to architectural ensembles was produced by the theoretical works whose authors analyzed the phenomenon of architectural ensemble comprehensively. It is owing to these texts that new publications on ensembles, both theoretical and critical, kept appearing throughout the 20th century.

TEXT ABOUT ARCHITECTURE AS A TYPE OF INFORMATION

The modernity is characterized by huge dependence on information. Various aspects of information are directly connected with various disciplines, from mathematics and cybernetics to linguistics and sociology. Texts about architecture are also information, and an interdisciplinary approach is needed to their studying. Thus, we may use quantitative analysis from the theory of information, which is part of applied mathematics. It would allow us to introduce an objective criterion into research. Analysis of the contents of texts about architecture and concepts used in them is related to philological research. A philosophical review of texts would make it possible to expand perception from separate concepts (architectural thoughts) of individual authors to the theory of architecture as a whole. Moreover, to ensure full comprehension of texts and mechanisms underlying their mutual influence, we propose to identify information interactions in works about architecture. These can be analysed based on both study of the contents and terms used in such works and on text typology (timing, contents, genre). Thus, we can identify three "aspects" in the analysis of works about architecture: philological, philosophical, and identification of information interactions in texts.

STAGES IN THE STUDYING OF TEXTS ON AN ARCHITECTURAL ENSEMBLE IN PROFESSIONAL PERIODICALS

In The article proposes a sequence of stages for studying texts on an architectural ensemble in periodicals. These stages include both analysis of articles and identification of interactions between information contained in texts. The results of application of this technique to the studying of texts on an architectural ensemble in practice are presented.

Автор пишет о планировочной структуре объекта, его образе, акцентируя внимание, как на положительных, так и на отрицательных качествах здания.
