ANIMATION TECHNOLOGIES IN MODERN DOCUMENTARY CINEMA

The article examines such a phenomenon of inter-species synthesis in cinema as documentary animation using systems and comparative typological analysis. Animation is characterized as a variety of cinema art. Its contemporary capabilities connected with the development of computer technologies are highlighted. Forms and purposes of using animation for creating popular science films are examined. The article describes the concepts of applied documentary animation and "animadoc", supporting the descriptions with concrete examples of films from this movement created abroad and in Russia since 1918, the year when W.McCay produced his documentary «The Sinking of Lusitania». The experiments of Ural cinematographers are reviewed. The authors propose an independently identified set of genres and functions of documentary animation and their characteristics. Prospects are outlined for further studies of the creative potentialities of documentary animation.
