The article explores issues in the optimization of steel bearing structures in the cover of a sports facility using a swimming pool in the city of Sochi as an example. This experience has potential to be extended to the design of large-span sports facilities with a complex plan across Russia, including seismic regions. Special attention was paid to the distinctive characteristics of swimming pool design and construction on the Black Sea coastline and their impact on the structural design of such facilities.
