The synthesis of the existing visual, aural, kinetic and static components of the urban environment and traditional forms of art in public consciousness has produced with the help of advanced multimedia technologies such a form of digital art as projection show, in which a video clip is projected onto a physical object of the environment taking into account its shape and spatial location.

A 3D model is made on the basis of a photo of the structure onto which the augmented reality is to be projected. The model would be then altered and amended according to a certain scenario.

There are two main variations of video projection onto an architectural project, which are interior and exterior projects. They differ in scale. Architectural video projections are characterized by combinations of optical distortions and effects.

The understanding of video projection show apperception is based on human psycho-physiological mechanisms of perception.

Analysis of the varieties of video projection and their aesthetic and psycho-emotional effect on communities prompts prospects for their use for developing an architectural environment.

When creating video projections it is essential to take into account artistic and aesthetic requirements concerning the urban environment. The augmented reality can alter the appearance of a site beyond recognition, which is especially important when working with a historical context.

This technology provides ample opportunities for thematic integration of urban space and transformation of the urban environment in accordance with a given theme. The potentialities of video projections for outdoor advertising have also been identified.

In general, the projection of virtual elements provides broad options for adjusting and completing urban environments.
