ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN AND ARCHETYPES OF SPATIAL ORGANIZATION
Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №3 (39) September, 2012
The subject of this study is graphic structures in architectonic arts (architecture, environmental design, town-planning); and its purpose is to identify interrelations between graphic features and their existential contents. The basic research method used by the author is comparative analysis of graphic "scores" of architecture and design projects from various areas. The space of the article does not allow the author to unfold the full panorama of the artworks studied and, therefore, he presents just some of the best known examples to illustrate his basic theoretical positions. The theoretical basis of the study is works by philosophers and thinkers such as A.Schopenhauer, R.Ingarden, C.G.Jung; architects and theorists of architecture such as A.Loos, H.Häring, A.Sant`Elia, B.Zevi, etc. The article introduces for the first time the study by the French architects A.Borie, P.Miсheloni and P.Pinon devoted to issues in architectural form generation to domestic art historians. The author revisits the value of graphics in architectural design, draws distinction between "organic" and "symbolic" design methods, and raises the issue of the essence of type design and its existential contents. The article proposes the concept of "archetypes of spatial arrangement» as a typological basis for environmental architectonics.
