KULOTINO COMMUNITY CENTRE, AN INCOMPLETE MASTERPIECE OF AVANT-GARDE BY THE ARCHITECT N. F. DEMKOV
Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №4 (36) December, 2011
The article describes the attribution, based on unique archival materials, of a project recently discovered by the author – the recreation community centre located in the settlement of Kulotino (Okulovka, Novgorod region). The building presents a specimen representing the unique creative concept of N.F.Demkov, a unity of the functional method and the aesthetics of suprematism. This construction is a very interesting monument of architecture dating back to the Soviet avant-garde of the 1920s – early 1930s. It has not been known up until now, and information about this building has never appeared in any professional publication. The current condition of the building, N.F. Demkov's incomplete masterpiece, is catastrophic. The article provides a detailed analysis of the structure, changes in its architecture during construction, and its subsequent use. The text contains a number of unique graphic materials from N.F. Demkov's personal archive, and graphics made by the author of the article.
