Creating a comfortable environment in public spaces using salutogenic and navigational design
Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №2 (90) June, 2025
The principles of salutogenic approach to the design of public spaces are considered, focusing on the benefits of salutogenic and navigation design in the creation of a comfortable environment that strengthens the physical, psychological and social wellbeing of an individual. Key factors that can be applied in this type of design to improve quality of life are indentified. Three components of the sense of coherence are considered as proposed by A. Antonovsky: comprehensibility, manageability, meaningfulness. A salutogenic approach to the development of navigation systems is suggested to allow designers to develop a navigation system model that would help find one’s way, but also produce a positive impact on the user. The system-homeostatic approach is used to demonstrate the stability of the navigation system. The indicators of urban environment comfort index are analyzed. In the conclusion, a list of components of a comfortable environment is provided.

Visual navigation: current research directions
Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №4 (88) December, 2024
The purpose of the article is to identify the key aspects that form the problems of wayfinding systems based on the systematization of approaches to the study and design of visual navigation. Works by Russian and foreign scientists who have made a significant contribution to the study of visual navigation systems and their impact on humans are analyzed. The evolution of the wayfinding – wayshowing – wayknowing concept is shown. The result of the study is a set of main aspects by which the problem of visual navigation can be structured.

WAYFINDING DESIGN IN THE SPATIAL ENVIRONMENT OF AN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION: DESIGN AND METHODOLOGICAL ASPECTS
Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №3 (71) September, 2020
The paper considers theoretical aspects of navigation design in public spaces of educational institutions. The research is based on theoretical and empirical methods: literature analysis, target audience surveying, comparative analysis, and synthesis. Requirements for signage are specified, concerning: information content, visibility, uniformity of visual elements, esthetics, ease of use, cost-effectiveness in production and ease of replacement of information, environmental friendliness of materials, and safety for humans and the environment.
