ANALYSIS OF THE ETHNIC FEATURES IN THE ARCHITECTURE OF THE FORBIDDEN CITY

Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №2 (78) June, 2022

The article examines the ethnic features of the Forbidden City complex in Beijing during the Ming Dynasty. The following arguments are clearly stated: central symmetry, "to the left — the temple of the ancestors, to the right - the temple of the earth", "in front – reception rooms, behind - the imperial chambers", "three courtyards and five gates" and other ethnic architectural forms that have never been studied as a separate subject within the framework of architectural art, but in recent years have become in demand as a legacy of the national spirit.
The purpose of this research work is to offer ideas for an in-depth study of traditional architectural elements embedded in modern architecture. The novelty lies in the analysis of the rational and balanced design concepts of the Forbidden City complex from a scientific and mathematical point of view, as well as in the use of a dialectical approach to developing and generalizing the characteristics of the spatial composition and ethnicity connotations in the architecture of the Ming Dynasty.

PICTOGRAM AND METAPHOR IN THE SYSTEM OF ANCIENT CHINESE ARCHITECTURE. PICTOGRAPHIC HIEROGLYPHIC WRITING AND METAPHOR IN ANCIENT ARCHITECTURE AND COMMUNICATION OF MODERN INFORMATION MESSAGES

Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №2 (74) June, 2021

Primitive forms of ancient Chinese architecture are mainly associated with Chinese hieroglyphs. The ancient keys of Chinese hieroglyphs were originally visual symbolic representations of real phenomena and objects. In our analysis, we will try to understand the mystery of Chinese hieroglyphs from just one perspective – following the development of ancient architecture. This text provides as an example some Chinese hieroglyphs related to ancient architecture and explains the historical culture of architecture rather than the technology of architecture. Chinese hieroglyphs display ancient architectural forms accumulated in them as sedimentary layers. At the same time, the shape, structure, and drawings of these buildings also betray a deep metaphor. This metaphoricity contains many social, cultural, hierarchical, etiquette and other factors and depends on human physiology, psychology, and faith. It undoubtedly results from certain connections and associations. All this combined with various architectural images of the era or with the individual make up the main characteristics of the structure, shape and drawing of the building. Understanding the historical evolution and meaning of ancient Chinese architecture is essential for understanding and identifying the information conveyed through ancient symbols in modern buildings and their drawings. In ancient Chinese buildings, metaphors are common everywhere, especially in the Imperial palace buildings.
The originality and novelty of this article is embodied in the name and logos of two hospital buildings, Huoshenshan ("Mountains of the God of Fire") and Leishenshan ("Mountains of the God of Thunder"), built in 2020 for the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 in Wuhan, China. The innovative use of the ancient Chinese hieroglyphs and ornaments and the metaphorical meaning of the ancient symbols convey a clear modern-day informational message.
