COPE Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers;
Guidelines for Retracting Articles;
Guidelines of the European Association of Science Editors (EASE));
International Standards for Editors and Authors developed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

All participants of the publication process, including authors, reviewers, editors, the editorial team, and publishers, are expected to behave ethically in publishing.

The editors will act in accordance with the COPE standards in cases of unethical behavior.

Author’s Rights (s)

1. The author is required to assign their exclusive rights in the work in full to the USUAA.

The USUAA shall have an exclusive right to use the work in accordance with Article 1229 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation in any form and in any manner that does not violate the law (including by methods specified in p. 2, Article 1270 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation), including to publish it online in Architecton (http://archvuz.ru).

2. The following should be warranted by the author:

the author holds the copyright in the work (Article 1255 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation);
the author is the only author of the work;
at the time of conclusion of this agreement, the exclusive right to the work has not been alienated, pledged, or transferred under a license agreement to any third parties;
the use of the work as well as of any of its parts will not infringe the copyright or other rights of any third parties;
at the time of conclusion of this agreement the rights of the author have not been contested in court, including arbitration court, or any other lawful manner, and there any no other disputes involving the right in the work being considered at the pretrial stage and in the course of resolution;
the work has not been disclosed in any other ways (i.e. the work has not become public domain through its publication, public demonstration, public performance, broadcasting or carriage via cable means, or in any other manner) both in the Russian Federation and beyond;
the work contains all references as may be prescribed by the legal acts of the Russian Federation to authors cited and (or) publications, as well as to any results and facts obtained by other authors and (or) institutions and used in the work;
the work does not contain any information that constitutes State or business secret;
the work is not under any restrictions (ban) on its publication.

3. The author retains their inalienable rights. The author retains the right to use the work or any of its parts for personal, informational, scientific, academic and cultural purposes.

4. The rights in the work shall be considered assigned to the USUAA at the moment a request for publication is submitted.

Duties of the Editors

The editors of the journal are responsible for deciding which submitted articles should be published. Decision-making is based on scientific evaluation of contributions by the editors, editor-in-chief, lead researchers of the Ural State University of Architecture and Art, and independent experts invited as reviewers.

In matters of publishing, the editors are guided by the imperative of objectivity - decisions are based solely on the professional level, research quality and scientific significance of the contribution, and the journal’s scope and focus without regard to authors’ race, gender, nationality, citizenship, and religious, ideological or political views.

The editors hold the exclusive right to accept a manuscript for publication or to reject it as failing to meet the requirements for a scientific publication adopted by the journal. An already published article may be retracted if the editors discover facts of misconduct that were not known during the review process.

A manuscript may be declined by the editors without review for the following reasons:

the article does not fit with the aims and scope of the journal and the domains covered by it;
the author has submitted an article that was published previously, or the manuscript has been submitted to more than one journal concurrently;
the report of the study is poorly written;
the principles of ethical publishing that guide the editors of the journal are not observed;
the manuscript contains plagiarism, unjustified or excessive citations, and a large percentage of self-citation;
images, drawings, photographs, tables, graphs, charts and other graphics are used without acknowledging their sources or without obtaining the copyright holder’s permission;
data falsification;
improper referencing (incomplete bibliographic description of the source, erroneous identification of the primary source);
authorship misrepresentation;
the author(s) claim credit for the results of others.

The editors will notify authors of the reasons for rejecting the manuscript and may recommend re-writing or improving it. All fundamental changes concerning the contents of a manuscript are made in agreement with its author(s).

The editors treat each manuscript as a confidential document and do not disclose information relating to it to anyone, except the author(s), or to third parties (excepting reviewers), for publication.

The editors keep the name of the reviewers anonymous.

The editors formulate a list of questions for reviewers to answer concerning the manuscript and provide guidelines for the formulation of conclusions.

If case errors are discovered in an article, the editors will take measures to correct them and, if necessary, publish clarifications and apologies to readers and the author(s).

Author(s) and the editors may have differing views on material published, but the responsibility for the publication rests with the editors.

All articles are published free of charge.

Duties of authors

The study or work reported by author(s) should be original and previously unpublished, and should not be a translation from a foreign language or under consideration for publication in other journals.

Relationships between authors and the editors shall be governed by the laws of the Russian Federation.

The editors assume that all authors of submissions have seen the final version of the manuscript, agree with its publication in our journal with the proposed order of their names in the article.

All authors of an article are equally responsible for its contents.

All sources of information used in a study, including authors’ previously published copyright material, should be acknowledged in the form of citations, references, and notes. Plagiarism in all its varieties is not allowed.

Authors should rely on verified data from reliable sources and ensure access to such data for editorial evaluation. Information obtained from confidential sources should not be disclosed without written permission to do so.

Authors should avoid false allegations, inaccuracies, personal criticisms or accusations directed at other researchers.

If a significant error is discovered, the author must immediately notify the editors of it to ensure that it is fixed as soon as possible.

The journal is operates an open access policy. Articles may be read, downloaded, copied, distributed, printed out in full-text version with attribution without any limitations in accordance with the Creative Commons - Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) License.

Duties of reviewers

Reviewers should provide an objective, impartial, argumented and comprehensive opinion of a manuscript, avoiding personal criticism of its author(s).

Information that has become known to the reviewer as a result of reviewing must be kept confidential. Unpublished material must not be disclosed, interpreted or used by reviewers for their own research objectives or personal gain.

Reviewing is done on a voluntary basis.

A reviewer must notify the editors if they cannot complete the report on time, or if a reviewer feels unqualified to review a paper in a particular research area, or if there is a conflict of interests in relation to the study, authors or funding organizations.

Research advisers (supervisors) may not act as reviewers.

Conflict of interests

Authors should clearly recognize all sources of funding, all potential conflicts of interests including consultancy, paid-up expert conclusions, work by hire, patent applications and their registration, grants, fees and other forms of financial support for the study reported.

Retraction

If a contribution is found to have been published in another journal before its publication in the “Architecton”; or a fundamental error is discovered in it after publication, casting doubt on the scientific value of the material; or there are claims from third parties regarding copyright infringement, the editors of the journal will carry out a check, which may result in retraction of the article.

In this case, a retraction report is drawn up, a copy of which is sent to the author(s). In the future, no more contributions will be accepted for publication from this author(s) in the journal. The article will be physically removed from the issue, and information about the article retraction will be posted in the section «Retracted» on the journal’s official web-site.
