THE IMAGE OF ROSE AS A SYMBOL OF TRADITION IN 21st CENTURY DESIGN

Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №1 (65) March, 2019

The article explores how the traditional textile motif of rose is reconsidered in the creativity of 21st century artists and designers. A short excursion into the history of cross-stitch embroidery and carpet making is proposed focusing on images of rose in these applied arts. The reproduction of this motif is illustrated with examples from costume and interior design. A review of historic textiles and their comparison with modern products has enabled a relationship between national ornament and current design practice to be established. The practical significance of the study is emphasized.
