ANALYSIS OF METAL STRUCTURE ESTHETICIZATION TECHNIQUES IN THE INDUSTRIAL ARCHITECTURE OF CLASSICISM BY THE EXAMPLE OF THE FRONT STAIRCASE AT OMSK CLOTH FACTORY OF THE SIBERIAN CORPS
Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №1 (69) March, 2020
The subject of this study is metal art in architecture during the period of late Classicism in Siberia. In particular, it focuses on the use of exposed cast-iron or steel prefabricated staircase structures. The article considers how the canonical foundations of Classicism were esthetically reconsidered using as an example the design of the front staircase in the building of the Siberian Corps cloth factory, one of the first industrial facilities in Siberia, now a heritage building of Classicism dating back to the first half of the 19th century. A formal-stylistic analysis was carried out on the basis of field surveys to obtain a description and analytics on the art forms of the structural and decorative elements employed in the double-return multi-flight staircase. It is hypothesized that the staircase was purchased from one of the Ural iron-making mills. The study calls for further detailed investigation and conservation of this heritage.
