The article reviews the development of the waterfront area in the Vyborg Side with the aim of identifying building types that present historical and cultural value. We consider the evolution of the Vyborg planning structure according to the city plan developed by I.B.Sikhgeim, the city plan by F.F.Schubert and the 1852 plan, which was one of the first special plans allowing forthe industry of St.Petersburg. The archival plans (1857–1912) of individual properties with residential and industrial buildingsare analyzed.
