Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №1 (73) March, 2021

As part of the national architectural context, the authors address a specific phenomenon of Russian architecture – the Russian style and its features as can be seen in the mid19th-early 20th century architecture of provincial Voronezh. An attempt is made to identify the set of factors that influenced the consideration of these architectural projects as specimens of medieval Russian architecture and the emergence of the Russian style in the country with its regional specifics. A number of the most significant and striking stone and wooden buildings in Voronezh reveal techniques and forms borrowed from old Russian art of building and vernacular architecture.

WOODEN ARCHITECTURE OF VORONEZH IN THE LATE 19th- EARLY 20th CENTURY

Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №1 (65) March, 2019

The article discusses the historical reconstruction of wooden buildings that existed in Voronezh at the turn of the 20th century. These buildings were irretrievably lost as a result of destruction and fires during the Great Patriotic War and subsequent demolition in the 1970-1980s. The miraculously preserved and surviving specimens of Voronezh wooden architecture illustrate its uniqueness and originality. Field studies and analysis of archival, historical and architectural material have enabled the author to establish the city planning characteristics of the wooden architecture and the location and character of the wooden buildings within the city fabric. The spatial planning, compositional, functional, typological, structural and stylistic features of the wooden architecture of Voronezh have been determined taking into account the regional specifics.
