Analysis of the characteristics of minarets of modern mosques in Jordan

Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №2 (90) June, 2025

The article analyzes the architectural features of mosques built in the 2000s in Jordan based on designs by local architects. Particular attention is paid to the minaret, which, despite the loss of its traditional function as a place from which the muezzin calls for prayer, remains an important element of the architectural composition of the mosque. The study examines eight mosques and their minarets. General trends in the design of minarets in modern mosques are identified in terms of their functions, location on the plan, shape, construction, details, and decor. For the first time, previously unexplored architectural objects of Jordan have been introduced into scientific circulation, which clearly demonstrate new trends in the architecture of mosques.
