COMPUTATIONAL ARCHITECTURE AS A RUNAWAY OBJECT
Architecton: Proceedings of Higher Education №2 (46) June, 2014
The article illustrates the contemporary tendency in computational architecture and reflects topical ideas in the context of the third-generation activity theory. In this study, the basic qualities of runaway objects and contemporary modes of production (according to Yu. Engestrom) are considered with reference to computational architecture. The hypothesis is that computational architecture could be comprehended from the perspective of how runaway objects function. The goal of the study is to describe architectural processes and their outcomes in accordance with Y. Engestrom’s ideas using as examples the educational projects Branchpoint (Russia) and Emergent Technologies and Design MSc / MArch Programme (UK) as well as the evolution of computational architecture concepts since the second half of the 20th century.
