METHODS OF VISUAL SPATIAL ARRANGEMENT OF THE BALLET STAGE (ON THE SYNTHESIS OF EXPRESSIVE ARTISTIC COMPONENTS IN SCENIC DESIGN AT THE TURN OF THE 19TH CENTURY)

The author analyzes issues in three-dimensional organization of a ballet and reveals the specific character of choreographer’s compositional thinking based on the performing nature of the theatrical image. She also reviews various components of the acting space created by the architectural environment of the stage, sculptural space, dancers’ aspects, colorful illumination, color gamut, and linear perspective. Methods of acting space compositional design space are examined, such as frontal, structural, coloristic, decorative, which are illustrated by the most significant examples of ballet scenography design at the turn of the 19th century. Emphasis is made on the importance of studying the three-dimensional potentialities of the stage that could help enhance choreographic production.
